Reconnecting with Nature

through Journaling & Birding

Reconnecting with the natural world after a disaster can be difficult. We can hold on to fear and even resentment, blocking our ability to be at peace with nature. Nature provides us with peace, beauty, and infinite wonder. Reflecting in nature by focusing and recording our observations, thoughts, and experiences is a practice that can bring healing in times of crisis.

Nature Journaling

Nature Journaling brings us closer to reconnecting and deepening our connection with nature while sharpening our observation and drawing skills. Carolina of Corona Fine Art will guide us through various prompts to help us reconnect during the first two hours of our workshop as we explore the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary.

Birds & Nature Observation

Previously serving on the board of the Blue Ridge Audobon Chapter, and a CAB supporter, Douglas will help us become better acquainted with the sanctuary, sharing information about it’s habitat, what kinds of wildlife to keep an eye out for, and the roles they play in the local ecosystem.

Mike of Jungle Branch will share stories from the sanctuary and beyond, as well as simple practices in the art of noticing. Whether you have a professional camera or just a cell phone, this portion of the workshop weaves image capture into nature journaling and how we can use story and art to help ecosystems and wildlife alike.
